Soay sheep date back to the late Neolithic Period, the time when man first started to tend plants and keep animals.  Today these fascinating animals are providing scientists with fresh insights into the on-going operation of Darwinian natural selection and evolutionary genetics.

St Kilda is one of only twenty-four places in the world designated a World Heritage Site twice over – as a Site of Outstanding Historic Importance and as A Nature Reserve of World Stature.
